Ganga Mai Ki Betiyan: Namrrata Pradhan on the Upcoming Track: “A Divorced Daughter Is Better Than One Who Loses Her Dignity”
Starring Amandeep Sidhu (Sneha) and Sheizaan Khan (Siddhu) in lead roles, Ganga Mai Ki Betiyan brings compelling family drama to Indian television, weaving together stories of relationships, resilience and the courage to stand up for what is right. As Sahana (Namrrata Pradhan) finds herself at a crossroads in her marriage to Murli (Rohin Joshi), the village panchayat urges her to give him another chance after he admits his mistakes. But Sahana is no longer willing to let societal expectations dictate her choices. Refusing to return to a relationship that has cost her peace and self-respect, she is ready to become the first woman in her village to seek a divorce. Through Sahana’s powerful decision, the show brings to the forefront a question many women continue to grapple with: should saving a marriage come at the cost of losing oneself? Applauding the makers for addressing this pertinent issue, Namrrata Pradhan, who essays Sahana, shares her perspective on why choosing oneself can sometimes be the bravest decision of all.
Namrrata Pradhan shares, “I truly believe that a divorced daughter is better than a daughter who is forced to lose herself, her dignity and eventually her life just to save a marriage. Sahana’s decision is not a result of a minor inconvenience or a moment of anger. She tried everything to save her relationship, to prove her innocence and to make her husband believe in her, to the point where she was ready to give up her own life. A relationship is never easy to walk away from, and I don’t believe divorce should be the first solution. But when saving a relationship comes at the cost of your life, your self-respect and your identity, then choosing to walk away is not selfish, it is choosing yourself. In real life too, I have seen women who silently suffer for years because they are scared of what society will say, and I have also seen women who choose the difficult path of walking away and rebuilding their lives. What makes me really happy about this track is that Sahana is such a simple, soft-spoken, relatable girl, and yet she chooses to stand up for herself. If a girl like Sahana can find the courage to take a stand for herself, I truly believe every woman can.”
With Sahana determined to seek a divorce, the question now is whether Murli will accept her decision or find a way to win back her trust. Will Sahana stand firm in her resolve to put her peace and self-respect first, even if it means challenging long-standing traditions in her village? Or will the course of their relationship take an unexpected turn?
